Now that you have all the time in the world, you get a chance to practice yoga right from the comfort of your home, any time you want.

Once you have learned yoga from a qualified teacher, and are comfortable, you can start practicing yoga on your own. Here are a few tips to keep in mind if you practice yoga at home:

9 tips to practice Yoga at home

1. Do it at the right time

Doing yoga in the morning is the best time as it will help in keeping your energy levels high during the day. However, any time according to your convenience is good enough to practice yoga. A yoga session in the evening helps in refreshing the mind and releasing the stress of the day.

2. Make sure you have a comfortable place

The best place would be a small, private room in your house for daily yoga practice. After some time, this will create positive vibrations in the room, which will facilitate healing, strength, and comfort to you and others in your family. You can also choose any quiet space in your house, that has enough area to roll out a yoga mat and where you know you won’t be disturbed for a while.

Make sure that your yoga space is clean, well-ventilated, and away from furniture or any sharp objects.

3. It is best to practice on an empty stomach

The best way to practice yoga is on a light or empty stomach. Make sure you keep a 2-3 hours gap in between your mealtime and your yoga practice.

4. Wear something simple

Choose loose, comfortable clothing. Don’t wear tight, body-hugging outfits as they may come in the way of wide stretches. Also, don’t wear any excessive jewelry or heavy makeup.

5. Warm up

This is very important, or you may risk straining your muscles. Start with a light warm up and do a few stretches for flexibility before moving on to more intense yoga asanas.

6. Be gentle

Start off with easy and simple yoga poses. If you respect your body then go slowly, or you would hurt yourself.

7. Be consistent

It is very important to be regular with your yoga practice. Make it a part of your daily schedule until it turns into a habit. Twenty minutes of regular yoga practice will more likely show better results than two hours of occasional practice.

8. Make yoga a family activity

When you do yoga alone, it is likely to get boring after a while, or you may just become lazy. So make yoga a family activity and let it be a perfect excuse for a family fun time.

9. Do a variety of yoga techniques

Do a variety of yoga poses and breathing exercises. If you don’t have time, fix a set of asanas that can be done every day, and then treat your body to the complete package on one particular day! Also, make sure to end your yoga practice with yoga nidra.
